Finally, They're Back!
NMA Veterans' Outreach Services update On Sunday, May 1st, The Northeast Area Veterans’ Outreach Services, with the cooperation of the State University at Albany and the Stephen Siller Foundation, will begin a fund raiser to build a new home for Air Force Tech Sgt. Joe Wilkinson. Sgt Wilkinson is a 32-year-old veteran who served two tours of duty in Iraq and a tour in Gitmo, where he guarded terrorists. During his tours in Iraq he became a victim of chemical poisoning, and as a result he has lost the use of his legs, has had two spinal surgeries to remove tumors, is losing strength in his arms and upper body and has to have a urinary stimulator. Joe and his wife Lucretia have three small children, ages one and a half, nine and twelve, and they live in a home that affords only 578 square feet of living space. Joe’s condition is steadily growing worse and he is confined to a wheelchair. He is waiting to be transferred to the Bronx VA hospital which specializes in spinal cord issues. Joe never complains and never asks for anything. Tragedy has hit this family hard as Joe’s sister Jenn, who is constantly helping him and is very devoted to him, also lost a son, Army Sgt David Fisher, in Iraq in 2004. Joe and Lucretia, and Jenn and her husband John, have established as a goal the creation of a foundation in David’s memory to help other veterans. I will be assisting them in their pursuit of that goal. If you or any of your members would like to donate to this worthy cause you may send a check payable to The Stephen Siller Foundation. In the memo section of your check, please put "Joe Wilkinson Fund." Checks may be sent to The Stephen Siller Foundation, P.O. Box 136, Tribes Hill, NY 12177. We will be using the Siller Foundation as they are a 501c3 tax exempt organization. Stephen Siller was a NY Fireman who died in the Twin Towers in 9/11. We will be looking for contractors and others who are willing to help to build the house, or donate use of equipment, or furnish building materials. Any inquires may be addressed to me at diplomatman2002@yahoo.com or by phone at 518-265-7345. Thank you very much for your consideration in this matter. Sincerely, Paul DuBois, FMCA Northeast Area Vice President
